Disagree completely. The internet and smart phones made those shows superfluous.

Sportscenter came into its own because there was nowhere else to get sport scores and highlights. I remember staying up to watch the late sportscenter as a kid to see if my baseball team won. I remember being hooked just to see highlights of homers and football games.

Now, everyone who wants to get a score just goes online or hits an app on their phone. Scores and stats are instantaneously available. There is no need to watch a highlight show or grab the morning paper to check a box score. There is no need for those shows anymore and that is why people are not watching them.

disagree completely...
look at the ratings that SVP gets...
Wed 494k viewers, 304k 18-49 viewers
Tue 480k viewers, 294k 18-49 viewers
Mon 2.487m viewers, 1.315m 18-49 viewers

I get Monday is after MNF, but Tue/Wed had nothing leading up to it.

Also what SVP does is he does have some highlights, but he's also got guys coming on like Melrose/Levy for hockey, various guys for MLB, NFL, NBA, etc. It's as much opinion quite frankly as it is highlights.

Instead of trying to go up against Van Pelt / SC - why not have Nolan or someone else host a more traditional late night talk show?

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon meets sports? Plenty of content if you add a musical guest. Audience will show for athletes like they do for other entertainers.

Those sportscenters numbers are terrible compared to years past. The highlights is dying. If your a hockey guy your watching hightlights on NBCSN. College hoops, CBSSN for a excellent highlight show. MLB, MLB Tonight on MLB Network.

They're still not numbers to sneeze at.

Also looking at the 3 days year to year-
2015 3 day avg of 1.559 million
2016 3 day avg of 1.154 million

so it's lost a quarter. but how much of that quite frankly is due to the election? Also, that's the same number that the other ESPN shows are down as well.

Also, they're still getting at least 350 k viewers for it no matter what- regardless of lead in.

All I'm saying is that Fox needs something different. Fox Sports Live on non event nights does not work. Casual fans do not like Jay and Dan at all whatsoever. And it's clear to me that Fox sees them as being goners as well- given that they are doing hour long plus post game shows, and even having after that another show before Fox Sports Live.

As an aside, I know it was on network NBC but the crappy football game got an 8.0 rating. Also, I wonder if we are gonna get some Big East promos soon, would love to see some during the NLCS.
