Jays win 2 over St. Johns!

The two wins improved the Bluejays to 27-15-1 and left them with a one-game lead over the Red Storm with three games to play. Creighton will close the season at Xavier, while St. John’s (32-16, 11-4) is at Seton Hall.

Collegiate Baseball Poll has Creighton ranked #30. Slight surprise, RPI still in the 80s. Unless they can win the last 5 games and get to the tourney finals, probably still small chance of an at-large.

The selection committee frequently gives the northern teams a little slack. The fact that we play all early season games on the road, have had very limited time outside (or none at all like this past winter) and play against competition that's been outdoors practicing for awhile, is a clear disadvantage for us. If you start slow and finish strong, that normally is taken into consideration. Also it's very difficult to get the good SOS (and RPI) when we have too many weak teams in the league, and the local teams you play midweek, don't provide the opportunity for good wins either. That being said, no one of Creighton, St. Johns or Seton Hall should feel comfortable about an at large bid, if they don't win the conference. I'm hoping we get two bids, which is clearly a best case scenario, but I'm not counting on it. After the Johnnies let Game 2 against Creighton get away, I'm looking forward to the tournament and us hopefully getting some payback. I'll be rooting for Creighton to get an at large berth to the NCAA's. Then everyone will be happy, right?

Jet, not much interest in baseball apparently, maybe it needs some expansion talk. How about if we add Florida State and UCLA to boost the league's RPI? :)
