Yorost.. you are totally right i always feel for the small conference teams that dominate their conference and then get upset in their conference tournament and end up with an NIT... honestly the NIT isn't that bad but we we all know its not the same. In some sense it is what makes the small conferences more fun to watch... everything is on the line. I don't know if there is a perfect way to do it so i guess the system we have now is ok... Hell the less the NCAA tinkers with things the better in my opinion. That said lets just hope our new league ever has the problem of a one bid league...

If I was a one bid conference I would not want a post season tourney. Let the regular season winner go to the NCAA's. It works for the Ivy's. I can't believe that these one bid leagues make much money from the tourney either.

I suppose for a few conferences, if your regular season champion is an at-large contender you don't want them to get the automatic bid. Not sure how often that's the case, but paying teams for tourney games makes the first team not likely in the tournament the ideal receiver of the automatic bid, doesn't it? C-USA would financially benefit if Memphis does not win the conference tournament this season, no? ...ignoring the complications due to realignment, anyways.

Maybe the money isn't in the tournaments, but fans, and probably the players, like the season ending tournaments. If your conference doesn't get NCAA or NIT bids, that's your postseason. I'd hate to say a conference can't have that, it'd just be nice to see the more deserving team getting recognition and bid.

The problem is the conference tournament is the only games some of these conferences can get on tv- and therefore usually half if not more the leagues income in revenue. the Ivy's can live without it the other cons not so much... unfortunately as much as video killed the radio star... tv killed the value in a league championship...hmmm now i can check off working in a buggles reference of my bucket list
