Vcu adds Womens Lacrosse

If UR and Georgetown get to count their law schools and medical school, so does VCU. And mcv IS 100% owned by VCU.

This would still leave the conference two women's teams short, right? If someone else in the mix all of a sudden announces lacrosse I might buy into this. Until, then, Title IX seems reasonable enough. I do appreciate that you know your school's situation better, though, I'm not saying I'm convinced any of you are wrong.

Obviously Title IX is the given reason in the press release, but the timing is certainly interesting because the last VCU team added was in 1995 (women's soccer), coincidentally the year VCU joined the CAA...(the plot thickens).

Marquette and VCU are startup programs, though, and Villanova, while I don't know their history, is expected to be a bottom feeder in the Big East this year. Georgetown is the catch the conference has, which does look nice, if not great.

Loyola (MD) might join, but is this really better than the Patriot for them? They aren't the only Jesuit school in the Patriot, either, if that even matters to them. The Patriot doesn't look terribly strong, tough to tell without being more familiar, but we aren't exactly a draw if this is what it comes to. Georgetown I can see possibly putting up with startups to have their own conference sponsor the sport, but getting outside schools interested could be a problem. It should be a fair question to ask if even Georgetown is interested in this sport being sponsored. They might be happier elsewhere, I'm sure they want a competitive conference even here.

If VCU is sponsoring the sport specifically because of a conference change, then it only makes me appreciate your school joining the conference. I'm just not sold, too many questions still out there on the sport.

If I were a UR fan I'd also be in denial and live in fantasy land re: VCU. Gotta suck to have your school's home city be so comparatively indifferent.

I'm not in denial about anything, but thanks for your concern. VCU has a fine program and has grown by leaps and bounds recently. Congratulations on that. Some of your fans might want to mix in a little modesty and respect for our program, however. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of you all telling us that we're second class, no one in the city cares about us, you sell out 500 games in a row in your fold-up bandbox, on and on and on. We've beaten you two out of the past three times we've played, in case you've forgotten. We made a Sweet 16 two years ago. I realize that you made the Final Four, but 300+ programs in the country would have loved to trade places with us.

And when it comes to this league, we have a better chance of being invited than you do. I know it's inconceivable to you to understand that, but it's the truth. What's left of the A-10 will be a fine league either way. Good day.

No? Then why the bitter, childish quips when you got exposed? And what good are those on-court accomplishments if no one's there to care about them? You have 50, 000 alums, total, of which only about 1/3rd live in VA with even fewer in Richmond. VCU, on the other hand, is the city's largest employer, and the state's b 6th largest. It has an annual economic impact of 3+ billion. UR could go to the final four but just like Mason it would not be able to capitalize on it. Be proud of the money that's sitting in the bank, but don't pretend there's upside there that does nt exist.

If you're suggesting that I should apologize for the fact that our university is highly selective and has chosen to remain at less than 3,000 students, I'm sorry but I won't. If you'd like to brag about the fact that VCU can accept anyone who includes a check with their application, feel free. It sounds as if your argument is 'We have more people, therefore we are better.' Wake Forest and Butler have tiny student populations too and have proven historically that it's no hindrance to national publicity or success. We've proven that too.

Oh and by the way: Our 'little' school that 'no one' cares about in Richmond has just drawn more fans each of our past four games than VCU can for any home game. Kind of shoots your theory to hell.
