Although the general narrative has been that 1985 Villanova was a fluke, etc, that is not true
That team probably gets better than an 8 seed with todays seeding standards.
not really sure. 19-10 regular season. Looks like would have had 3 Q1 wins- Temple, Syracuse, and Boston College- maybe going like 3-9 in Q1 games. Scoring Margin in regular season of 4.69 which would have been .1 lower than Providence who only got a 4 seed at 4.8 with a 25-5 record. Seems like a 8 seed type to me now in days.

I'm seeing 19 games away from home, which probably gives them NET ranking in the teens.

fair but think the scoring margin overrides that to a decent amount.

Just a guess on my part, but I'd think scoring margin was lower back then vs. today that has many teams and even conferences gaming advanced metrics.
stever20 wrote:It's definitely an interesting thing. So looking Temple was 25-6 and had a scoring margin regular season of 7.9 PPG.
Looking at Sports Reference(they have more sports now than just Baseball)- Nova had the #86 MOV in 1985 to include the tournament. Their SRS had Nova at #23 after the tourney(for comparison they have Nova right now at #10 this year).
Yeah thinking Nova probably would have still been a 8 seed, if not potentially lower actually.

stever20 wrote:So 1 thing that could give hope to Nova. They played 1 game this year w/o Moore. Home vs UConn and they won that game by 11, 85-74. Chris Arcidiacono that game played 26 minutes. Dixon went 24 pts/12 reb in that game.

The other 3 rotations are only 6 or 7 deep as well. Nova has a better than a decent chance to win as long as Gillespie and Slater get healthy with some days off.
