It has nothing to do with regular season vs BET championship. the problem for GU isn't last year. Its what happened after the season ended that has been problematic: (1) inability to keep your players, (2) grossly under-performing by Georgetown standards, or any standard really other than probably DePaul this season.

When give a choice between BE regular season vs BET championship... most of us will choose Big East Tournament - it means more for the fans. We just love MSG and winning in a big time atmosphere like that. There is nothing like it in the NCAA

Keeping Ewing after this terrible seasin signals to the world that Georgetown is content with losing. That they no longer aspire to be a powerhouse program (like Villanova, UConn)

Winning the Big East regular season championship would imply that Georgetown put together a strong team over the course of half a season and was on a good, sustainable trajectory. Ewing instead got an extension over his team getting hot one week.

So last year- after the COVID Pause regular season they went 6-4 to end the regular season and then the BET obviously. So a 10-4 run before the NCAA tourney.

Patrick Ewing is the single worst coach in college basketball . This isn’t even an exaggeration. He’s that bad . I truly think I could do a better job . It’s embarrassing and if Ewing comes back next year in his own accord I will start to lose respect for him at another level. I think he’s a good person and one of the best players ever but he is single handily holding the program back at this point

Clyde Drexler only spent two seasons at Houston, going 19-39 (.327) and 7-25 (.219) in conference. He resigned to "spend more time with family".

Chris Mullin spent four years at St. John's, going 59-73 (.447) and 20-52 (.278) in conference. He resigned due to "personal loss" which was reported at the time due to the death of his brother.

Patrick Ewing is currently 68-79 (.463) and 26-59 (.306) in conference. Pretty wild that Ewing still has a greater record than either Drexler or Mullin at the moment, not to mention a BET Championship. Georgetown is in rough shape now and for the future. Even if Ewing were to return, it would be surprising if a majority of the team did not transfer out. The incoming recruiting class if #52 in the country, and certainly not near the top of the Big East. As bad as things are right now, they could easily get worse next season - making the decision to hire a new coach all the more important in a few weeks.

I still predict Georgetown and Ewing have a separation after the BET, if not during. It's a failed marriage that is really beyond saving at this point.

I gotta say, as Georgetown keeps losing, I feel the pressure building for Xavier to finish the job. They face each other in the last game of the season. Heck, if Xavier secures a 6 seed, they'll face each other on Wednesday night of the BET soon after! Talk about games you simply can't lose without severe consequences.

It's a whole seed line difference you'd think. Just remarkable to see any Big East team in this situation, let alone Georgetown.

Possibly two seed lines, depending on relative positioning. Seems like it could drop X 5 or 6 spots on S-curve. Ewing really has to go.

Interesting quote from Ewing after the game- from local DC reporter:
Patrick Ewing on his future as #Hoyas coach: "Of course I want to be back here, but in this position, in this job, whatever happens will happen. I’m hoping I’ll be back and doing something that I love at a place that I love and getting us back to being the king of the hill.”
