UConn- Ollie wins case

Just saw this- Kevin Ollie has won his arbitration case vs. UConn. Is due $11,157,032 within next 10 business days, per his attorney Jacques J. Parenteau and William Madsen. Arbitrator was Mark Irvings.

Really tho, thought he'd end up getting a good chunk of it. Just glad our dealings with him are done, and the last of the AAC stank has officially washed away.

Yea, he was always let go because of the on-court results in 17 and 18, not anything to do letting his players work out with a trainer in the off-season (which, I mean, should that even be a problem?). Good for Ollie, he deserves a golden parachute for 2014.

Apparently we needed to give Ollie another year plus of committing NCAA violations in order for the contract to be void...

Statement from UCONN:

“Indeed, in his decision, the arbitrator agrees that the NCAA’s ruling that Ollie engaged in serious NCAA violations gave UConn sufficient basis to terminate Ollie for just cause,” the statement read. “However, the arbitrator concluded that UConn should have waited the 16 months it took for the NCAA proceedings to conclude before terminating Ollie."

“As an NCAA member institution, UConn did not have the luxury of waiting more than a year before terminating Ollie for the misconduct the university was aware he had engaged in. UConn could not continue to employ a head coach with the knowledge that he had violated NCAA rules that put student athletes, as well as the entire UConn athletics program, in jeopardy."

Who allowed that buffoon to arbitrate this case. If his violations were clearly egregious, then they were, uhm, clearly egregious, and without any uncertainty about them at all. UCONN tries to do the right thing and gets burned for it?

Good for Ollie. I always thought that (Bogg's take below) was the reason for termination, and that Ollie was victim of a double standard. The NCAA charges are routine stuff that Self,
Pitino, the Miller bros, and Calipari do (and get away with) every year. Everyone knew that UConn had a boner for hiring Hurley and he finally came up to bat at URI.
UConn wanted him gone at any cost, despite Ollie's being annointed by former god Calhoun, so they could bring in Hurley.

No. It's called poetic justice.

Connecticut attempted (and succeeded) in screwing over Coach Ollie.
Then they whitewashed their actions by trumpeting other activities that would be ignored if done by the likes
of the Millers, Wild Bill Self, Calipari, Pitino, Roy, Coach K. Poetic Justice that "at any cost" was seen by the arbitrator as $11+ Million,
rather than the 5-7M for his initial buyout.
