Looks like Freemantle out at least a month. I've even seen 6-8 weeks being floated out there. Obviously not good, but X has some serious talent to plug in at the 4. Both Hunter and Stanley could easily shoulder starter minutes there and be highly productive. Even the freshman Cesare Edwards looks to be ready to chip in.

Zach's injury could be the difference between winning and losing, only if Jack Nunge has issues post rehab and/or Dieonte Miles doesn't emerge as expected. We then would be forced to go really small. We have the quality of depth to pull it off, but anyway you slice it, our chances of beating the four "power 5" teams scheduled non-conference are somewhat diminished.

No.

It merely gives the transfers and others more opportunity to shine. There is more than enough talent and experience
to take up the slack during Freemantle's recuperation. Opportunity knocks...anyone home?

Zach's injury is a blessing in disguise. The transfers get those minutes and ease into the grind. Hopefully they will
make it tough for Freemantle to re-enter the rotation in Dec/Jan - whenever he returns. Should make for a much
deeper and tougher X team.

Johnnies played 1st exhibition last night vs. D3 Baruch. Predictably demolished them as their starting center is 6'4 lol...but some takeaways for what they're worth:

The good:

-Much more size and the bigs actually have skill, especially Stanley & Soriano. We have not had this dynamic at all in the past decade plus.

-We should be a deep team...and almost every player can meaningfully contribute. More shooters than we've had the past few years.

-We may finally have the horses to truly implement coach's chaotic defensive scheme.

-Very few players look raw to me. Polished and skilled relatively speaking for 1st exhibition. Under Mullin and Lav we always looked super raw even with top 50 type recruits. Pinzon and Stanley are freshman and clearly have real skill.

-We aren't reliant as much on 1 player as we were under Lavin and Mullin. Champ doesn't need to bring his A+ game every game to have a good chance to win even against good teams.

The bad:

-FT's need work

-Rebounds must be secured...weird tendency for our guys to play volleyball with the ball when attempting rebs which sometimes ends up in the opponent's hands

I know it's hard to take the game seriously, but just going off my eye test.

CBS Sports picks the Jays 5th in the BEast for 2021-22.

The USAToday Coaches Poll picks Jays 3rd, now CBS's Parrish & Co. picking Jays 5th.

Not sure what we can take from these scrimmages. PC beat Purdue today. UConn lost to Rutgers.
