The ruling:

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/me ... tor-failed

Two years of probation.

A $5,000 fine plus 1% of the men’s basketball program budget.

A reduction of men’s basketball scholarships by one per year for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years (self-imposed by the university).

A reduction of men’s basketball official visits by six during the 2021-22/2022-23 rolling two-year period (self-imposed by the university).

A reduction in the number of men’s basketball recruiting person days by 10% from the previous four-year average for the two-year probationary period (self-imposed by the university).

The university will prohibit complimentary admission to home games for all prospects and coaches in November 2021 (self-imposed by the university).

A two-year show-cause order for Preston Murphy. During that period, any NCAA member school employing him must restrict him from any athletically related duties unless it shows cause why the restrictions should not apply.

Pretty light overall. The only one that would normally impact much is the scholarship reduction, but if there's any time to get that it's now because players using their extra year of eligibility don't count as scholarships.

Glad to see no post-season ban. Creighton has always been a clean program- just one bad apple.

I don’t think anyone from creighton is arguing and they have said they won’t appeal. Mac usually keeps one scholarship open for a walkon and that is the case presently. Now that scholarship becomes the imposed reduction or so it seems. Everything was self imposed and the ncaa noted that Creighton has never had a violation in 100 years of collegiate athletics and took that into consideration.

Boy I hope Creighton isn’t taking Syracuse’s place in conference by cornering the market on negative headlines. No one has beaten up their girlfriends with a toaster (yet) so the Jays have some runway to work with. Still, Mac’s #1 priority should be restoring the integrity of the program he is entrusted to lead.

Looks like Creighton self-imposed a few minor restrictions and the NCAA agreed that is enough. That sounds like pretty good news.

Long time AD Bruce Rasmussen announced that he will retire next month. He was the chair of the ncaa men’s basketball tournament committee a couple of years ago. Most expect that we will hire from within the department, but the official statement said we would conduct a national search.
