Unless Zegarowski, JRE, Bouknight return. Shoot Gillespie could even return because of the extra eligibility everyone was given.

I’m a huge Champagnie fan. Love his game. He’s a stud. But, again part of the challenge for that award is to finish top 1/3 in conference IMO. Also there will be players from other programs who will take more of a central role in their team’s offense. So Justin Moore now has the ball in his hands more with Gillespie gone, and maybe C. Bishop at CU (if Z is gone), Rhoden at SHU, Freemantle at X, Carton or Lewis at MU, Sanogo or Akok at UConn, Weems at DePaul (although I find that highly unlikely) etc. You gotta put up #s AND your team needs to be in contention.

That's a really good point. SJU needs to win more game. Just wondering when the last time a BE POY played on a team that didn't finish in the Top 3-4 in the league? Anyone?

Wooden Award Top 20 (https://www.woodenaward.com/john_r_wooden_award_presented_by_wendy_s_announces_2020_21_men_s_late_season_top_20_watch_list):

Gillespie
Robinson-Earl
Bouknight

I'll be shocked if Gillespie doesn't end up BE POY.

I went as far back as Randy Foye in 2006 and EVERY single BE POY, with the exception of Kris Dunn, finished in either 1st or 2nd place in the league. So there’s that. I would imagine that trend would probably continue consistently.

Husky, I agree. Unfortunately, Bouknight’s injury (I think), will hold him back.

Is it safe to say it is probably a 4 horse race? I would be stunned if one of the folloowing did not win BE POY: Gillespie, Robinson-Earl, Zegarowski, Mamukelashvili.

Unless some other team goes on a run to climb into the top two, it's hard to see where there is any other even remote candidate.

BE POY isn't coming from a team that finishes in the bottom half of the conference. Period.

Given conference play, Bishop and Jefferson deserve some run, but Zegarowski seems like the clear front runner from Creighton. Gillespie and Robinson-Earl are the front runners from Nova -- although Samuels has been as big to them winning games as either of the other two. Mamu is a trendy pick if SH can somehow sneak into the top two -- but he's actually disappeared in big conference games against the other top teams.

Honestly who chooses this? Duke wins BE player of the week?

David Duke shot 37% from the field and averaged 5.0 turnovers per game in wins over a Bouknight-less UConn and DePaul.

Creighton beat Georgetown and Villanova.

Christian Bishop: 16.5 PPG, 77.8% FG, 9.5 RPG, 2.0 BPG.

Marcus Zegarowski: 17.0 PPG, 48.1% FG, 4.5 APG, 4.5 RPG.
