The mileage BC got out of the Flutie Hail Mary is really unbelievable. It wasnt even in a bowl game. Just a regular season game that got them a bid to the Cotton Bowl vs Houston.

Meanwhile, Miami played in the Fiesta Bowl vs UCLA.

36 years later, it's apparently still the greatest accomplishment in BC sports history. Holy sh-t.

I'm a Boston sports fan (not BC though), and generally Boston sports really has great marketing... i mean, Fisk's homer in 75, jeez, does everyone realize we actually lost that World Series? Holy cow.

Yes. I was in Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati going crazy with thousands of fans in '75 and again in '76 after we beat the Yankees. A long time ago.

Think that is a function of how incredibly irrelevant they have become. You forget they even exist (as most of their fans did a long time ago).

dash, Big Sox fan here, even though they lost that series to the Reds, it was one of the best ever. Saw a number of games at Fenway and had a family connection to Yaz. So, as mutual Yankee haters, you will appreciate the biggest baseball highlight for me was sitting in Yankee Stadium with a smirk on my face after years of suffering on October 20th, 2004... That ranks 4th on my all time favorite personal sports highlights list (guessing you can name the other 3)!

The ‘75 WS was one of the best ever.

A couple of other recollections:

1. Curt Gowdy was a Boston “homer” and didn’t seem to like The Big Red Machine very much.

2. I absolutely loved Louis Tiant (sp). His wind-up on the mound had Tasmanian Devil written all over it!
