Nice article about winners and losers of the BE break up and reformation. Will not be shedding any tears over here.

It’s amazing how far the 3 defectors have fallen. I think if ND had foreseen how the Big East would reconfigure, they would have stayed with us. They were a perfect fit. They could maintain their independent status in football and had all their other sports in a league of schools that have a lot more in common with them compared to the ACC.

GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

The Post is full of shi+ but that's some pretty good shi+!

Good point about money not being as big a factor for ND. I still have a bit of hope for the Irish re-joining but they have to go back to being full indy in football next year and win a playoff, that would be a good time to say F-Off Tobacco Road.

The Pres/ADs of all the other teams are happy and will never rejoin but I'm sure their fans are NOT happy in the ACC (although they won't admit it to a BE fan).

Money makes people do some stupid things. I mean, the allure of keeping our (then) payouts in the old Big East made our Presidents, BOTs and ADs believe we wanted to align with the C-USA call-ups (UCF, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulane) for basketball. Who you associate yourself with is much more valuable than what one party or individual views your value to be.

I can speak with high confidence that Notre Dame has zero regrets about going to the ACC and would do it all over again the same way. They were, and remain, interested in the high academic associations the league had (Duke, UNC, Virginia, Miami, Georgia Tech) as well as the footprint it carried (entire east coast, not just NE) for recruiting purposes. Yes, they are a Catholic school, but do not have the same value towards peer Catholic institutions that many of our current programs have.

No mention of Boston College aka Fredo, hands down the biggest loser of all the Big East defectors?

Fredo.

This cracks me up. I think ND fans refer to BC as Fredo. That's funny in and of its own right. Yet there is nothing to be embarrassed about when it comes to BC being a great school in a beautiful location.

They are the poster child for schools who went for the money grab and suffered in the win-loss column.

Yeah the only catholic schools Notre Dame would consider its peers are Boston College and Georgetown. They don't think of themselves in a group with the other 9 of the 10 NBE schools.

The mileage BC got out of the Flutie Hail Mary is really unbelievable. It wasnt even in a bowl game. Just a regular season game that got them a bid to the Cotton Bowl vs Houston.

Meanwhile, Miami played in the Fiesta Bowl vs UCLA.

36 years later, it's apparently still the greatest accomplishment in BC sports history. Holy sh-t.

I'm a Boston sports fan (not BC though), and generally Boston sports really has great marketing... i mean, Fisk's homer in 75, jeez, does everyone realize we actually lost that World Series? Holy cow.

BC (or BCs scout team) is going to get cremated by FSU tonight with only 4 scholarship players  now that’s suffering.

Two thoughts:
(1) Cincy is another big loser in the post "old BE" world. How long since they have had a losing season at the beginning of February? Of course, they got rid of the drunk and brought in Mick(y) Mouse who then left for UCLA because he could NEVER live up to the drunk's image in UC fan minds, and so they are now trying to figure out if Coach Brannon is worth another year of rebuilding. Not clearly a result of the break-up here, but it contributed.
(2) When I was on faculty at XU (MANY years ago!), we referred to ND as the "EVIL EMPIRE", because they thought they were sooooo far superior to every other Catholic university that the others didn't even matter. Well, to be honest, maybe Georgetown was relevant in their eyes, but that was it. Catholic trivia, most of the nation's Catholic universities were founded by the Jesuits (over 20 of them - the Jesuits are the most "outworldly" of the Catholic monastic orders, who doubled the Franciscan, Marionist, and Benedictine university totals. (Quick now, what order founded ND, and how much Benedictine stuff other than booze can you name?) Bottom line On ND in my oh so neutral opinion: you reap what you sow, MFs.
