Thanks GoldenWarrior11. Wasn’t aware Marquette pulled the trigger 1st. Of course, for better or worse, ND gets national news coverage few other catholic/ private schools do. Just hoping Loyola, where my other daughter attends follows suit.

The impact of COVID-19 on our sports programs is one thing, but the bigger picture is about the impact of it on our institutions overall. Student recruiting was already becoming increasingly more difficult due to demographic realities (i.e. a shrinking pool of kids from which to recruit). Then this invisible crap hit our doorsteps.

I presume each and every private Big East school is weathering all this well, or as well as can be expected. Being part of the Big East has certainly changed Xavier's profile and ability to recruit, as it now draws more heavily from the east coast and from outside Ohio, in general - from the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Xavier University, defying a national trend, is on pace to meet its enrollment projections for the next academic year, according to school officials.

Other institutions, like Miami University, are preparing to compensate for fewer than expected students, and thus less revenue, in the fall. The American Council on Education, a trade group, estimates a 15% drop in enrollment across the country.

But Xavier's Aaron Meis, the vice president for enrollment management and student success, said the Jesuit university is on pace to meet its goal of enrolling 1,180 first-year students in the fall, and re-enrolling continuing students is on track with the rate from last year, when a global pandemic hadn't upended higher education.

"I think Xavier ... was ready for a crisis such as this," Meis said.

He credited recruitment efforts, such as emphasizing digital content after the university was forced to close, affecting not just current students but also prospective ones hoping to take tours.

A lot of stories about different schools eliminating various sports programs. Some stories about small, under resourced liberal arts schools closing altogether. Probably more of each will continue to follow.

At least BE schools will make it back to normal someday, whatever "normal" will be.

Notre Dame followed the Marquette model, which we announced before they did.

Dang I thought Creighton adopted this first. Saw Fr Hendrickson in CNN talking about it.

Creighton announced their first semester would end after Thanksgiving on May 8.. Marquette adopted it on May 15, although a provost at Marquette had suggested it earlier. So it’s now the “Creighton plan” and maybe that’s why Hendriksen was on Tv.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

I think another thing to watch will be the spring semester. Saw that University of Indiana isn't going back in the winter until Feb 8. Think that'll be very popular- cutting out spring break- and getting out in May.

University of Houston has suspended workouts after 6 student-athletes tested positive for Covid-19.

Folks, this is going to be happen all year and possibly longer. We either need to accept the risks and move on or shut it all down again.

Dr. Fauci is running down potential outcomes and is coming to the same conclusion that I have been describing since April. Any plan is great until you get punched in the face. Then when that happens, you are quickly forced to consider your options. In the case of Covid-19 the only card being played has been isolation and quarantine. I fear, with out a legitimate, realistic Plan B, all these leagues are going to run and hide at the first sign of trouble. Then when that happens our NCAA BB dreams for '20-21 will become less and less of a possibility. Schools certainly are not going to want to be the trailblazers here when liability concerns are so high.

Depressing.... We need a vaccine.

Fellas, fellas. Everything is gonna be fine. Just relax a bit and take some Hydroxychloroquine like the Prez recommends. You'll be fine, the teams will be fine.
Based on the Prez's recommendation I'm stocking up!

Yo, Gumby my man. Nova won't have to share a title, if there is no title to be won. :o

If we can make it thru December and the 2 early conference games, then the team with the overall best record, with the 2 conference wins will be the champs.
exp: Depaul with a 11-2 overall record including the 2 december conference wins would be crowned champs over both Jays 11-2 (1-1 conf) and Nova 12-1 (1-1 conf).
Coach Leitao wins a champeenship, saves his job, and the Blue Demons have some ground to build on in recruiting and shit talking. Go Blue Demons!

DePaul can hang a banner, just like St. Joe's "Perfect Season" Banner in which they did not win their conf tourney (hello, there X fans) and lost in the E8, denying them the FF they desperately desired.

Aaron Torres
@Aaron_Torres
Incase anyone was curious where the school's priorities lie, UConn just became - as best I can tell - the first school to welcome back basketball players (today) ahead of football players (July 1). Officially announced by the school this afternoon
