I'm somewhat optimistic there will be a vaccine later this year, so college basketball may not be impacted.

The wait-until-a-vaccine path is interesting to me. There's still so much we do not know, but what we do know is that the regular flu takes nearly 60k every year. However, less than half of Americans choose to get a flu shot. Even if we are waiting around for a vaccine to truly return to normal, would we really expect society (that a majority doesn't get a flu shot to begin with) to universally all choose to get a COVID vaccine?

Unemployment continues to skyrocket. At some point, the reality of keeping everyone in doors will cause more harm than threat of the virus itself.

The data from the MLB antibody testing will be a very revealing study. Eagerly awaiting to see what those results are.

Yes.

And yes.

I expect a gradual rollout of closed sectors of the economy to begin by no later than June 1. I also expect the college basketball season to be "safe". For that matter, I believe football will be salvaged to a large degree.

Finally, I think we all know that we're headed for a new normal, whatever that is to look like.

EDIT: Final comment: the Chinese will continue to deny and deflect. I otherwise would not expect a communist regime that doesn't care about its own people to acknowledge its sins and make retributions to citizens of other nations for the damage brought on by this pandemic. This isn't about trying to get the Chinese to behave like good global citizens. That will not happen.

This is about taking proactive action to hurt them where it counts: in global trade. Pull back our strategic and critical manufacturing to the United States. They've shot their Johnson off in this deal, and they should suffer the consequences for it.

Urbana University in Ohio, a branch of Franklin University, has announced that they will be closing their doors at the end of the spring semester.

I think it is very possible that a number of small, liberal arts colleges will be facing enrollment issues this fall and might succumb to financial pressure and be required to close.

AV, you're being kind - - "very possible" is probably going to be more like "most probable." A number if these institutions were hanging on, due to demographics, etc. already. This black cloud is going to really do some damage.

I am very interested (apprehensive) about the reopening of the economy presently. Should there be a rebound in the number of hospitalizations and deaths, the likelihood of college campus and dorms opening this fall diminishes significantly in my opinion. If students are not on campus, there goes your college sports season.

I totally agree Armyvet.

Right now i would guess there's like a 10% chance of a normal college hoops season starting this November.

If things open up at this early point, the likelihood to me would be less than 1 percent.

Seems to me as though we continue to need widespread nationwide coordinated testing, like on a massive scale, so that we can manage and track the virus for real, with actual numbers.

Realistically, a vaccine won't be ready til late 2021 at the earliest. We can't expect ridiculous magic bean solutions like hydroxychloroquine, which was obviously bullsh-t, nor bleach nor Lysol nor Formula-409, whicj of course is insane. Sounds like Theodoric of York remedies.

This doesn't sound promising.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House Coronavirus Task Force’s top public health expert, said in an interview with The New York Times on Tuesday that some sports might have to skip the rest of their seasons if the conditions remain dangerous:

“Safety, for the players and for the fans, trumps everything,” he said. “If you can’t guarantee safety, then unfortunately you’re going to have to bite the bullet and say, ‘We may have to go without this sport for this season.’”

Fauci reportedly said that the key factor in whether or not sports leagues can return to action is how quickly the U.S. can gain broad access to tests with quick results.

Until the day comes that there are enough tests out there for leagues to use them without taking them out of the hands of those who need them for purposes more important than sporting events, it seems unlikely any major leagues’ plans to hold a season will get off the ground.

Yeah, I don't think we'll see college sports this year. None. Zero. Zilch, Nada. Much like the shock waves that began with Rudy Goubert being diagnosed, what happens when a football team returns for practice, someone contracts it and then it starts to spread among the team. Game over. Then the college Presidents and the University Counsel step in and all group activities cease. No team sports period...until there is a vaccine.

All obvious respect and concern to those truly suffering from this tragic pandemic aside, but as a college hoops fan you can't help but feel for these kids (in all sports). When the country is most in need of a diversion, they'll all be sidelined. Maybe sports like golf, tennis...maybe baseball (where contact with the other players is minimal) there could be some potential. But sports like football, basketball, soccer, hockey don't have a prayer for remaining opened once the virus starts attaching itself to individual players.

Thanks to the enterprising lads on Youtube, we at least will be able to play the 2020-21 season on 2K8 or NCAA Basketball 10.

What a novel concept - no sports. I'll be able to work on all the todo list items I've been slacking on. Will go to MindValley and take a slew
of self-improvement courses. I will have time to shine my shoes. Online classes to finish my Ph.D.. Exercise vs Dunkin Donuts?

Oh, so much to do...and now I'll have the time in which to do it! Cheers. ;)
