OT- How concerned should we be about CoronaVirus impact?

Postby ArmyVet » Thu Feb 27, 2020 4:12 pm

Slow day on the board, but a frantic one in the markets. Wondered what everyone thought about the Corona Virus and the impact on the world economy. I am not a wealthy guy but seeing 10-12% of my net worth disappear in the market in a couple of days is disconcerting.

Any medical professionals want to weigh in? Any financial folk have thoughts?

Your losses aren't realized until you sell, the markets will recover. No need to panic.

Yea, the market should be fine.

There should be a vaccine by next year. The biggest threat is to people with pre-existing respiratory conditions and the elderly. Weirdly, children have been the most unaffected by it.

2 week or longer incubation period, spreads like influenza so cover your mouth when you cough and wash your hands. Most masks do not work (N95 is best).
The primary symptoms are 90% get a dry cough, 70% get a fever, only 20% have sever shortness of breath/pneumonia.
Average age is 55, 68% males.
