They need to bring athletic balance more in line with student demographics for Title IX.

Congratulations. UR has had women's lacrosse for years and now has men's lacrosse too. Day late and a dollar short, VCU.

A day late and a dollar short for what? Lacrosse might influence a decision, but it very well may not. I think the sign people are questioning is if choosing lacrosse for the new sport is an indication VCU is attempting to fit into a need the BE7 have towards sponsoring a sport, not an extra sell point.

You come off as being pretty condescending towards their school.

I'm glad you were able to pick up my condescending tone, because I was laying it down pretty thick.

My point is that UR already has this sport, and furthermore the C7 needs one more men's lacrosse team – something VCU doesn't have but UR will as of this fall. So UR can pick up the slack in both men's and women's lacrosse and bring more to the table there than VCU can. Lacrosse is not really a sport that is played by the typical VCU target student anyway, so I question how successful they will be there. Not a lot of private school types are choosing VCU.

There's no way the people at VCU could have foreseen this BB7 conference split. Adding a sport takes a lot of planning and research. And as was mentioned, it's mostly for Title IX compliance.

Having said that, I believe the above poster is trying to come off pretty condescending towards their school. He's a Richmond fan. :D

I pointed out it was for Title IX. I was just explaining what I think the VCU folk were wondering, I don't buy into it.

Your attitude makes you look bad, not them.

Sorry to give you the wrong impression. Several years of interacting with their ilk in our city and our boards has soured me pretty wholeheartedly on them. They enjoy bragging about selling out their tiny arena and acting as if we are insignificant when our tournament history spans several decades and theirs is essentially one impressive run. We've been in the A-10 for a decade and it was a terrible league to them – until they joined it. Etc etc.

Not trying to be a di#k here but doesn't VCU have more NCAA tournament appearances and wins than Richmond?

Edit: Here are the years that each team was in the NCAA tournament:

VCU

1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1996, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012

Richmond

1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1998, 2004, 2010, 2011
