The Big Ten already has a media rights agreement in place with Fox Sports and expects to award the remaining rights by the end of next month, Sports Business Journal reported Friday. The conference has had discussions with CBS, NBC, ESPN, Amazon and Apple about the remaining rights and Turner Sports is expected to begin formal discussions soon. CBS would use the Big Ten to replace the SEC package it will lose after 2023 and NBC is said to be interested in pairing Big Ten and Notre Dame games in doubleheader windows.

Details of the agreed-to Fox extension will not be clear until the remaining rights are negotiated.

Interesting stat - game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final (on ESPN) saw a 161% jump in viewership from last year on NBC.

Pretty solid evidence that our viewership numbers trail the F5 not because of lower interest but because we're not on ESPN.

This isn't to knock the Fox deal, I love our Fox partnership. It's to manage expectations that in terms of sports TV ratings, there's no sense in comparing ourselves with ESPN numbers.

Your networks are way off. Stanley Cup is on ABC, not ESPN. Last year's game 1 was on NBCSN, not NBC.

Fox's contract with MLB is much more lucrative and important than a contract relating to Big East/Big 10 women's volleyball. MLB is one of Fox's biggest partners, you can't treat one of your most important assets as a second-class citizen by putting a national game on FS2 in favor of NCAA volleyball. They made the right decision, unfortunately for the fans wanting to tune into the vball game. If the game didn't involve a Big East team, I'm sure no one here would've batted an eye at the decision. But it's excellent for Creighton and the conference that the game was able to attract so many eyeballs.
