Ok, obviously I don't agree with the general attitude on this page, and that's fine. We all have our own life experiences that impact our way of thinking. Interesting hearing peoples' thoughts.

Just want to point out that Marvin Gaye had a well documented drug problem, violent clashes within his first marriage, the. an open marriage, multiple suicide attempts, some other stuff mixed in there too. I'm just saying you can't say he lead a responsible life anymore so than half of the rappers or rock stars out there.

Yes, personal responsibility and personal incentive, drive, and determination can help an individual exceed/overcome
adversities and strive to be successful in life. We see it daily in all races, creeds, ethnicities. The power of a positive
example is a tremendous force. Many people have done so in the US.

Yes, slavery, reconstruction, and the Jim Crow era "officially" ended. However, tenets of JC were then "baked in"/codified within
the state, county, & local laws/ordinances to unofficially continue those old behaviors. That is why we continue having Redlining in
real estate zoning and sales, why we continue having disproportionate violence against blacks/minorities by policing agencies, why we
have re-districting of voting zones to reduce/eliminate voting power to those same black and minority voters. Hiring policies are also
effected - as we live in segregated areas, only see reflections of ourselves at work...commuting past peoples of color - who when a
qualified minority or black presents themselves as an applicant...he/she is questioned as to whether they are "really" as qualified as their
white co-applicant (who looks like me, loves hockey, is a white protestant episcopalian, and whose kids go to schools similar to my kids).
"Karen" never accosts me when I show up in any area - I'm white and I belong wherever I go. Clerks/owners in malls/stores never
refuse me service or question whether I can afford an item. I have unlimited credit -thank you Visa, Mastercard, & American Express. I never get
pulled over when leaving the Finneran Pavilion in my new Range Rover, unless I am one of the 10 blacks/minorities in the arena.

We say that discrimination is dead, that racism-as we once knew and loved it- is also dead. No so Kemosabe, not so. It has just been sub-
limated, dressed up in different clothing, and systemically immersed into every fabric of society.

I don't notice racism nor so-called White Supremacy because I have benefited from them since birth. I never get denied housing, denied
access, never get racist remarks or disparaging looks, because of my being white. I never suffer aggressive HR interviewers and am reasonably
treated, and often hired by firms - the overwhelming majority of folks there look like me also? I never get hassled when attempting to register to or
actually voting. My city/county council mandates new district lines to protect me from "the others". There is ample monies allocated to provide my
kids a good education in our pristine suburban schools (now if we can just stop the shooting in those schools). The police don't step on my neck
and are cordial/polite because I look like them. Drugs are not imported from overseas into my neighborhoods - as these are designed to
help keep minorities/blacks subjugated and to keep them as the permanent underclass. (We should have deported all those "emancipated
folks" back to Africa when we had the opportunity back in the 1860s-1870s.) Where did these opiods come from? I don't care if they (blacks-minorities)
have to work 2-3 menial "service Jobs" to make ends meet. Get a better education to move up the ladder. Quit whining and know your place in this country.

'Merika doesn't need changin'...Those people need to lift themselves up by their bootstraps, just like all of us Euro Immigrants did. Blacks need
to stop bitchin' & moanin', educate themselves, strive to live the American Dream, like the restofus. Love it or leave it! lol

Yep, these are the reasons I went to "Lil Creighton" - pullin' myself up by my bootstraps!
I remember it well- Day 1. The registrar could easily see I "belonged". I was the most handsome guy in the gym. Well mannered, impeccably dressed, and
exuded an air of superiority. My transcripts were top notch - from Omaha Tech - I was head and shoulders above the Creighton Prep kids. I had chosen the
Jays over "West Dodge High" (UNO, then Omaha Univ.) and was determined to succeed.

Oh yeah... one small omission above. My "Uncle Sweets" was paying the bills via the GI Bill. Just a small omission. It's funny what a deep-pocket can do, lol.


PS: Marvin Gaye did get his act together in his later years - after leaving the US for Europe.
