Everyone keeps saying the Big East name is dead. Thats ridiculous. Ask anyone about Big East football and they can't say 3 sentences without complimenting the basketball side while insulting the football side. When is the last time anyone has dissed the Big East basketball brand? For a while people said things like this "the league is so difficult the title contenders beat each other up." The Big East can't win the big one, then UConn did and everyone shut up.

Yeah it sucks a lot of great teams are leaving but 3 core schools that people will always associate with the glory days of the Big East are still around (Gtown, Nova, and St. John's). Seton Hall & Providence are familiar faces, and people recognize what Marquette has done recently in the Big East. Only DePaul doesn't add much value to the brand. If we had in some schools that play quality basketball, have some great games, some heated games, and people are going to continue to want to watch Big East basketball.

Starting a league with a new name, means it will have less recognition to a fan than the A-10, is not a great way to be building a new major conference. The ACC, Big 12, SEC, B1G, or Pac-12 abandon their brand when they reshuffled their membership. Why would we?

Yet that abandonment has cost them anything.

The only people that hold the name "Big East" in high regard are fans of schools in the Big East. Assuming the new conference doesn't start up until 2014, the name is further watered down as Syracuse and Pitt won't be in the league next year.

There name "Big East" has value to the schools in (and leaving) the Big East. As far as the C7 goes, those are Big East schools, and thus, the name means something to them. I am convinced the C7 will fight for the name.

Anyone who think StL and Creighton are too far West is forgetting where the big east is coming from... the below maps show what was in store and where it would be with Creighton... C7 needs to buy the Beast name, and yes, Creighton and St. Louis make sense.
