Sizing up the 2021-22 FROSH

Postby Xuperman » Wed Jan 12, 2022 6:46 am

We have a very talented group of impact frosh. Will be really interesting to see these guys battle it out for the limited spots on the All Freshman team.

Mohammed, Nembhard, and Taylor are the clear frontrunners. Then Kaluma, Ighodaro, Kam Jones and UConn's Hawkins.

Who will emerge? Can 2 Golden Eagles deny Kaluma a spot? That's going to be entertaining to watch!!

BTW, I feel like I'm missing somebody?

It'll be interesting to see if a guy like Kolek who played 21 games last year will be considered a frosh for the award. Marquette has 3 guys that are like that.

Don't think they should, but will they?

Doesn’t the Big East do “Newcomers” and not “Freshmen”?

Jayden Taylor is a starter for Butler, but don't count out Simas Lukosious either. Both are up and down (as expected), but "Luko" has been a great surprise.

Both Kolek and OMP played in 20+ games last year before transferring to MU. I didn't realize that Oso played in 5 games FOR Marquette...a total of 38 minutes. He did play in 2 BEast games, so I guess Wojo burned his redshirt. All 3 are listed as freshman.....BUT prior to Covid, I'm thinking they would have been listed as Sophs.

It has been an All Freshman award in the past, assuming it stays that way and the 3 MU guys do not qualify, the choices for the team become less suspenseful.

If they switch to ALL Newcomer....things get really crazy. Mohammed would likely be the only true freshman selected.

SHU was supposed to have a solid freshman class...then they got 3 transfer commitments and Aiken and Cale decided to come back so now it looks like all the freshman are redshirting.

Justin Lewis also played 21 games with Marquette last year but is still listed as a frosh.

It's going to be interesting to see how long it takes for things to get back to normal with guys. I mean we could see in the 2025-26 season 4 years from now guys who played in 20-21 season- 1 redshirt year along with 3 of 22,23,24,25 seasons. And conversely would see more guys redshirted after that which will make them older. It might not be until like the 27-28 or 28-29 year that we see things back to normal.

I sort of liked the proposal the A10 made of guys that are redshirting being allowed to play a limited # of games in Covid "emergencies". To avoid cancels.

He played well tonight. Three of our top 6 are true freshman, not the kind of freshman who played last year but are technically still freshman. If that were the case Kalkbrenner would also be a freshman this year.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.
