So, this year's strangeness aside, did it ever come out how the league intends to ticket Wednesdays going forward (one all-day ticket vs. breaking it up somehow)? A three-game all afternoon/evening ticket at mid-week prices would be a sneaky-good day for those of us who can just hop a train last minute and still make it back to our own beds that night.

Tiebreaking Procedures for Seeding

Teams will be seeded according to winning percentage.

The minimum number of games required to be included in the seeding process is 10 games (50 percent of the Conference schedule). For those teams that play fewer than 10 games, the Conference Office* will appropriately place these teams in the bracket with consideration given to actual games played and game results.

* The Conference reserves the right to adjust the minimum games depending on trends of games played

Two-Team Tie:

If two teams are tied, the following steps are taken in order:

1. Regular season head-to-head results. If the tied teams split their two games or did not play, then proceed to Step 2. If the teams play only once, that still satisfies the series. In the event that the teams play more than twice, and those games are considered conference games, all games will be considered.

2. Each team’s winning percentage vs. the team or tied [group of] teams occupying the highest position in the standings, not including teams which have fallen below the 10 conference game threshold. Only common opponents will be considered. If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team or group of tied teams in the standings for comparison. Continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

3. Each team’s winning percentage vs. the team or group of teams that did not meet the 10 conference game threshold. Only common opponents will be considered.

4. Compare each team’s total wins in conference play.

5. Each team’s total wins vs. the team or tied teams occupying the highest position in the standings, not including teams which have fallen below the 10 conference game threshold. Only common opponents will be considered. If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team or group of tied teams in the standings for comparison. Continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

6. Each team’s total wins vs. the team or group of teams that did not meet the 10 conference game threshold. Only common opponents will be considered.

7. Coin Flip. If any ties still exist after implementing all of the above tie-breaking procedures, a coin flip is required. The coin flip takes place at the BIG EAST Conference office (or may be conducted virtually) immediately following the conclusion of the last regular season conference game. Commissioner Val Ackerman or her designee will administer this procedure. This session is open to the media and to athletic department representatives of the tied teams.

Multiple-Team Tie (3 or more teams):

If three or more teams are tied, the following steps are taken in order:

1. Teams are viewed as a “mini-conference” when comparing head-to-head results. The team, or teams, with the best winning percentage vs. the other teams in the mini-conference gains the advantage, and the team, or teams, with the worst winning percentage vs. the other teams in the mini-conference is/are seeded the lowest. Only common opponents will be considered.

If only two teams have the same best winning percentage in the mini-conference, the higher seed goes to the team winning the head-to-head series. If the two teams did not play or split, proceed to step “b”.

If the two teams split their two games or did not play, then proceed to Step 2 under the Two-Team Tie. To seed the remaining team(s) in this mini-conference, proceed to (e) below.

If three or more (but not all) teams have the same best winning percentage in the original mini-conference, then those tied teams create a new mini-conference and follow this same procedure beginning of Step 1 (Multiple Team Tie).

If all teams in the mini-conference have the same mini-conference winning percentage or have no common opponents within the mini-conference, proceed to Step 2 below.

After the top or bottom teams in a mini-conference are determined, the remaining teams are ranked by their winning percentage in the original mini-conference.

If there are any remaining teams tied by their winning percentage in the mini-conference, then head-to-head results will determine the higher seed.

If the teams split two games or did not play, then proceed back to the two-team tie breaking procedure.

If there are at least three teams remaining tied by their winning percentage in the mini-conference, they would then form a new mini-conference and follow the procedure again at the beginning of Step 1 (Multiple-Team Tie).

2. Compare each team’s winning percentage vs. the team or group of tied teams occupying the highest position in the standings not including teams which have fallen below the 10 conference game threshold. Only common opponents will be considered. If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team or group of tied teams in the standings for comparison. Continue down through the standings until one or more teams gain(s) an advantage. If two teams have the exact same advantage (i.e., having the same and better winning percentage against a compared team relative to their mini-conference), they are separated at that point by the two-way tiebreaker procedure. The next step would take you back to Step 1 (e) (Multiple-Team Tie).

3. Each team’s winning percentage vs. the team or group of teams that did not meet the 10 conference game threshold. Only common opponents will be considered.

4. Compare each team’s total wins in conference play.

5. Each team’s total wins vs. the team or tied teams occupying the highest position in the standings, not including teams which have fallen below the 10 conference game threshold. Only common opponents will be considered. If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team or group of tied teams in the standings for comparison. Continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

BIG EAST Announces Tournament Attendance Plans - BigEast.com – March 3, 2021

NEW YORK -- Following Governor Andrew Cuomo’s recent announcement allowing partial spectator capacity at sporting events in New York State, the BIG EAST Conference has announced that a limited number of tickets will be provided to each of the participating teams in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament, scheduled for March 10-13 at Madison Square Garden.

All tickets will be specifically designated for use by the members of each school’s official travel party in order to permit families and guests of student-athletes, coaches and team staffs to attend games. Each person attending the games will be required to comply with all applicable New York public health regulations and MSG policies.

There will be no public sale of tickets to this year’s tournament.

“In determining the ticket policy for this year’s tournament, the Conference consulted with our member schools, the MSG leadership team, and New York State and New York City public health officials,” said BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman. “As New York sporting events start to re-open, we believed it was important to offer access to one of the most prominent events in college sports to those closest to the participants, while striving to protect the health and safety of all involved. We are excited to participate in the reopening of the Garden and look forward to returning to a full house next year.”

2021 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Tournament Presented by Jeep - BigEast.com – Updated March 7, 2021

FOX Sports, the conference’s television partner, will continue its wall-to-wall coverage with FS1 televising all nine games in the first three days of the Tournament before the FOX broadcast network carries the championship game on Saturday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. ET. The BIG EAST Tournament at The World's Most Famous Arena is college basketball’s longest running conference tournament held at the same venue.

With the readmission of the University of Connecticut giving the BIG EAST 11 teams, the Tournament will have an additional game in the first round. The tripleheader on Wednesday, March 10, begins with the No. 8 seed meeting the No. 9 seed at 3 p.m. The No. 7 seed battles the No. 10 seed at 6 p.m. and the No. 6 seed plays the No. 11 seed at 9 p.m. The three first-round winners advance to the quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 11, which begins at noon. The quarterfinal winners meet in the semifinal round on Friday, March 12, at 6 p.m.

Previewing the major conference tournaments headlining the week as Selection Sunday fast approaches

Below we've run through the major conferences to let you know teams to note, storylines and the stakes in each tournament with action tipping off in the ACC on Tuesday and in the Big Ten, Big East, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC on Wednesday. The AAC will hold its first games on Thursday and wrap things up with a championship game on Selection Sunday -- along the Big Ten and SEC -- before the field of 68 is announced.

Big East

Jerry Palm's Bracketology: Villanova (3), Creighton (6), UConn (7), and Xavier (Last Four In)

What to watch: Oddsmakers would tell you that the Big East Tournament is not wide open and that Villanova and Creighton are deserved favorites, but it just feels wide open because of the way things unfolded for both programs over the past week. Villanova lost Collin Gillespie to a season-ending knee injury in a win over Creighton, and then its backcourt took another hit with Justin Moore suffering an ankle injury in a loss to Providence. Creighton beat Butler handily in its regular-season finale over the weekend after losing two straight, but did so with coach Greg McDermott suspended because of racially-insensitive language. The obvious candidate for a third option is a UConn team that has won six of its last seven with the only loss coming by eight at Villanova. James Bouknight has raised the ceiling for Dan Hurley's Huskies, without a doubt, but I wouldn't be surprised if this a year that produces a deep run from Seton Hall, Providence or another team from the middle of the standings. Like the ACC, the league has pretty well-defined tiers and a decent number of NCAA Tournament teams but no juggernaut that is out ahead of everyone else.

It is worth noting that at the bottom of the Big East write-up, all five of CBS Sports experts - Gary Parrish, Matt Norlander, Jerry Palm, Kyle Boone, and Chip Patterson – picked UConn to win this year’s Big East Championship.
