OUCHHHHHHH. What a tough loss for the Johnies. That was terrible OT there.

St. John’s blew that game I’m fully aware.

But it’s awfully fishy the refs never caught on to Thompson blatantly hooking his defender for the entire game. I saw Posh and Coach Mike A getting on them about it and it just didn’t matter.

It culminated in the most egregious hook which was at the end of regulation on the bucket to tie it. I know the refs are never gonna call it there, but it’s still just so frustrating.

I’m mad at my team for botching that inbounds but god it hurts to see you give up clutch bucket after clutch bucket to a guy who is using his chicken wing to free himself up time and time again

This will probably knock the johnnies out of the bracket but at least their on the radar now. They need to win out.

Brutal loss and as of now on the wrong side of the bracket, but don't need to win out (the other bubble teams won't). We do need to win most of our remaining schedule, there are plenty of games left plus the Big East Tournament. Kept it close at least so shouldn't hurt our NET that much (our biggest flaw).

Feels we were overdue for this type of game, but damn it was rough. At least Creighton won.

Why is cbbssports so bad? They own the NCAA tournament so it’s not like they don’t know how to broadcast hoops. Maybe I take FS1 for granted. I know PC probably thinks the world of him, but Ryan Gomes might be the worst studio analyst I’ve ever seen.

The run had to end at some point on one hand...but on the other, this is par for the course as a SJ fan lol...finally start getting some national hype and eyeballs and suddenly we wilt. I know it's not in good taste to blame refs, but man I wish we had these refs from Hinkle at our home games! At one point I think it was like a 10-2 foul discrepancy and we were aggressive attacking basket. Refs routinely called defensive fouls against us, but when we had the ball the same plays became offensive fouls on us. Just another night of a noncontender team mucking up the waters for a tourney contender. This conference just eats itself every year. No offense to Butler...you guys are a great program and think you can be tourney bound in a year or two, but this year we should've handled it. We are now tasked with having to beat 3 of Xavier (they have a magical spell on us), UConn (will have Bouknight if played), Villanova (you aren't sweeping them regardless, especially away), and Seton Hall (Mush will be licking his chops knowing we have no big men). Awful spot to be in to make tourney...this is why you can't get into 1-5 holes. Zero room for error. Wonder if we will ever know what it feels like to be a clear tourney team all year long without any doubt if we're making it or not.

Got to come on to defend the insinuations from St. John's fans. The refs were horrible both ways. I'm not sure they got an out-of-bounds call right all night. Thompson got called for a foul because he was blocking out with his backend and the guy went over him.

Anyway, the Butler board was up in arms all game about how bad the refs were, both ways. College refs in general are not great, just because the talent pool is so watered down, especially in the pandemic.

...and who is this poster talking about "that Thompson guy" - where have you been the last 4 years and why don't you know who Aaron Thompson is?

If this is a "down" year for Butler basketball, I'm a happy fan. We've seen growth from the freshmen all season, and Posh Alexander may have been the 2nd or 3rd best freshman on the floor last night. Myles Tate had the best game.

Lavall Jordan is doing a much better job coaching the game, rather than to the pregame plan. Butler is better at a quicker pace, and will be so even more next year. They need to ditch the Princeton-style.

Butler did a good job slowing us down...sometimes that's the antidote to our pressure style. BYU took their sweet time and with surgeon-like precision waited for the very best shots to develop and they made many of them. We also have zero answer for any bigs with any semblance of an offensive game and true size. That's why Watson went for 30 against us in his sleep. Teams that slow us down and make precise open shots and also have a legitimate big man offensively are our kryptonite. Agreed the refs have been terrible all over. We are at our best with teams who are careless with the ball and teams who panic with pressure. Still give us credit for even being in tourney conversation even though it's hard to see us making it at this point. We should be putting every effort and resource into getting some 6'11 260 lb mammoths here. We are seriously cursed with bigs like that. Every year we look ready to compete, the lack of a true big man comes back to haunt us. We never have a guard problem or even PF problem.
